Therapist
Alison Franklin, LCSW
I provide in-person sessions in New York City and online therapy throughout New York State.
I work closely with adults to help them develop self-compassion, navigate complex emotional experiences, and create meaningful change in their lives. My approach is varied and holistic, blending evidence-based techniques with elements of humor, philosophy, and even insights from podcasts and contemporary thought.
I have a strong interest in physical health, spirituality, and neuropsychology, which often inform my approach to therapy. I believe that mental health is deeply interconnected with physical well-being, and I incorporate these areas when relevant.
I meet clients where they are, providing concrete skills and strategies to address current challenges, while also exploring past experiences and family dynamics to understand the roots of behavior patterns.

My Journey to Becoming a Therapist
My journey into therapy was shaped by a unique combination of personal interests and professional experiences. I started my career working as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselor, supporting employees of Fortune 500 companies as they navigated work and personal challenges. This experience taught me how interconnected our professional and personal lives are, and the importance of a supportive, holistic approach to mental wellness.
Later, I joined the Hallowell Center, where I focused on treating mood, anxiety, and attention-based disorders, especially adult ADHD. I found that many clients with ADHD are high-functioning adults who simply need tailored strategies and concrete skills to unlock their potential. Working with these clients, I developed an appreciation for both the executive functioning challenges and the emotional layers—like low self-esteem and shame—that often accompany ADHD.
My approach draws from a variety of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic principles.
For some clients, changing the relationship with themselves is key, and I support them in exploring practices that foster greater self-compassion and understanding.
